Barbara “Carol” Howerton Kernodle

   SWEPSONVILLE — Ms. Barbara “Carol” Howerton Kernodle of Swepsonville died Sunday, December 19, 2010 at the Hospice Home of Alamance-Caswell.

   She was a founding member of Open Bible Baptist Church.

   Survivors include a son, Neal Howerton Jr. and wife Shelia; stepsons, Richard Kernodle and Jerry Kernodle; a stepdaughter, Karen Williams; stepdaughter-in-law, Beth Kernodle; brother, Wayne Edwards; sister, Dorothy Black; 17 stepgrandchildren and six great-stepgrandchildren.

   She was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond A. and Viola Stenson Edwards; her first husband, Neal Howerton Sr.; second husband, Garland Kernodle Sr.; a daughter, Elizabeth Ann Ragan; a son, Jefferey Lynn Howerton; a brother, James Edwards and a sister, Aleen Younger.

   The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, December 21, 2010 at Mc-Clure Funeral Home in Graham and at other times at the residence of her niece.Tammy Lamm of Burlington.

   The funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, December 22, 2010 at Mc-Clure Funeral Home Chapel in Graham by the Rev. Steve Pruitt and the Rev. Michael Light. Burial will follow in the Frieden’s Lutheran Church cemetery.

   The family requests in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Hospice of Alamance-Caswell, 910 Chapel Hill Road, Burlington, N.C. 27215.
