BURLINGTON — Billie Van “Wink” McIntyre, 85, of Burlington, passed away on Friday, Oct. 19, 2012, at the N.C. State Veterans Home in Salisbury. He was born in Alamance County to the late Russell E. and Nannie Perryman McIntyre and was married for 62 years to the late Betty Ogden McIntyre. He was a Shriner for more than 50 years in San Diego, was a member of the San Diego Country Club and volunteered with the Boy Scouts. Billie was a U.S. Navy veteran who proudly served his country in World War II, Korea and the beginning of the Vietnam War and was also a scratch golfer in the Navy. Billie was also honored to be present at the signing of the peace treaty to end World War II in Tokyo Bay. He was a member of Glencoe Baptist Church.
He is survived by his daughter, Patricia “Patty” McIntyre, of Burlington;hisson,DonVan McIntyre,of SanDiego; sisters, Pat M. (Bud) Durham, of Burlington, Doris M. Garrison, of Daytona Beach, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, and brothers, Russell E. McIntyre and Thomas “Toby” Mc-Intyre.
A service to celebrate his life will be held at 3 p.m. Monday at Glencoe Baptist Church by Pastor Darrell Massey with military honors provided by the U.S. Navy. The family will receive friends after the service in the church fellowship hall and other times at
the home of
his sister, Pat
M. Durham.
