GLEN RAVEN - James William Barbee, 54, of Glen Raven, died at his home this morning at 6 o'clock following 10 months of failing health.

Mr. Barbee was a native of Alamance County, son of Mrs. Ella Tickle Barbee of Glen Raven, who survives, and the late William A. Barbee. He was an employe of Glen Raven Mills for 40 years prior to his retirement 10 months ago due to ill health. He attended New Hope Baptist Church.

Survivors in addition to his mother include his wife, Mrs. Kathleen McIntyre Barbee; one daughter, Mrs. Thomas J. Long of Burlington; one son, Bobby Gene Barbee of Glen Raven; five sisters, Mrs. W. T. Hoffman of Greenville, S.C., Mrs. Ralph Pickett of Haw River, Mrs. James Tingen and Mrs. Robert Love, both of Burlington, and Mrs. Jerry Tart of Glen Raven; two brothers, Eugene Barbee and Troy Barbee, both of Glen Raven; eight grandchildren.

Final rites will be held Thursday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock at New Hope Baptist Church. Conducting the service will be the Rev. Frank Gribble, pastor, assisted by the Rev. Earl Harrelson, pastor of Glen Raven Baptist Church. Burial will be in Bethlehem United Church of Christ cemetery.

The body will remain at Lowe Funeral Home until taken to the church to lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service. The family will be at the funeral home tomorrow night from 7 to 9 o'clock.
