BURLINGTON — Bill Laverne Farrell, age 87, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, July 5, 2013 at his home surrounded by his family. He was a native of Alamance County and the husband of 69 years to Louisa Somers Farrell who survives.
Bill was a contractor and rural mail carrier before retirement. Bill was a longtime member of Lakeview Community Church and a member of the Senior Adult Sunday School Class. He was a former deacon, treasurer and member of the Board of Trustees. Bill served during WW II in the US Army in the European Theatre. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.
Survivors include his wife, Louisa Somers Farrell of the home; daughter, Sandra Farrell Oliver of Burlington; son, Randy Farrell and wife, Patsy of Burlington; grandchildren, Amanda Oliver Blanks and husband, Stanley of Richmond, Virginia and Clay Oliver and wife, Kim of Fuquay Varina; great grandchildren, Justin Blanks, Daniel Blanks, Owen Oliver and Ben Oliver; sisters, Annie Glosson of Mebane and Yvonne Farrell of Graham; brother, Rex Farrell and wife, Bernice of Mebane. He was preceded in death by his parents, Garland Patterson and Crystal Sykes Farrell and a sister, Laurie Sharpe and brother, Kendall Farrell.
A service to celebrate his life will be held on Monday, July 8, 2013 at 2:00 pm at Lakeview Community Church by Pastor Gerald M. Sanders and the burial will follow at Alamance Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 4 until 6 pm on Sunday at Lakeview Community Church and other times at the home.
