James B. "Sonny Boy" Somers
ELON — James B. "Sonny Boy" Somers, 73, of 518 Pagetown Road, died Tuesday, February 19, 2008, at his residence following a period of declining health for three years.
He was born in Caswell County, to the late James E. and Pearl Smith Somers. He attended Caswell County schools and was of Baptist faith. He worked for many years as a farmer and carpenter. He loved the New York Yankees and hunting.
Funeral services will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Harrelson Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Darrell Massey. Interment will be in Pleasant Grove Primitive Baptist Church cemetery.
Survivors are wife, Sylvia Somers of the home; two daughters, Robin Upchurch and husband, Tim, Twiligh Branch and husband, Billy; three sons, Guy Somers and wife, Donna, Mark Somers and Matthew Somers; eight grandchildren, Jamie McGovern and husband, Charles, Shandi Stalnaker and husband, David, James Branch, Jessica Branch Samatha Somers, Josh Somers, Faith McKinney and Daniel Schoolfield; four great-grandchildren, all from Caswell County; and one sister, Louisa Ferrell and husband, Bill, of Alamance County.
In addition to his parents he was also predeceased by one sister, Helen Walker Mckinney; and one brother, Tommy Somers.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home, and at other times at the home of a daughter Twiligh Branch, 530 Pagetown Road.
