Evon Walker Thomas
BURLINGTON — Mrs. Evon Walker Thomas, 74, of 1619 Wynnwood Drive, Burlington, died at UNC Hospitals on Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2013.
Mrs. Thomas was born in Caswell County. She was the wife of Billy Ray Thomas, who survives, and the daughter of W. Herman Walker and Pauline Harrelson Walker, both deceased.
She was the owner of Country House in Graham for 20 years and taught art at Alamance Community College for over 21 years. She loved her many art students and was in turn loved by them. She also line danced on Monday mornings at Fairchild Senior Center. Evon attended Riverdale Baptist Church.
In addition to her husband of the home, survivors include daughter, Dawn Thomas-Mixon and husband Mick of Charlotte and Burlington; grandson, Jonathan Lane Waddell; great-grandson, Landon Cole Waddell; and brother, Thomas James “Jimmy” Walker and wife Brenda of Raleigh.
The funeral service will be conducted in the Rich & Thompson Chapel in Graham on Thursday, Jan. 10, 2013, at 2 p.m. by the Rev. Al Walden. The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 2 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. A private burial will be held at Graham Memorial Park. At other times the family will be at the residence of the daughter, Dawn Thomas-Mixon, 201 Taylor St., Burlington, N.C.
