Sara Elizabeth Young
GRAHAM — Sara Elizabeth Young, 74, born March 27, 1937, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2011 at 11:40 a.m. at the home of her son, Jim and wife Karry of Graham after her 20-year battle against cancer.
A native of Alamance County, she was the daughter of the late Flossie and Carl Shaw. Her working years were at Your House Restaurant, then as manager of Bojangles in Burlington and Graham. She also worked at Aamco on N.C. 54 until her failing health caused her to retire. She was a proud U.S. Marine who served her country.
She was an avid gardener who loved to plant and grow herbs and flowers. Her passion was baking and cooking for family and friends. Nothing was more pleasurable to her than to be in God’s great outdoors with her closest friends Dottie and Jack Crawford of Burlington.
She is preceded in death by her late husband, Lee Young and her young son Marty; sisters, Lucy Whitesell, and Mary Lee Moore; brothers, Louis Shaw and Junior Shaw.
Survivors include her daughter, Robin Young Cooper of Burlington; a son, Jim Young and wife Karry of Graham; grandsons Zack and Zane Cooper; granddaughters, Kourtney and Savannah Young; brothers, J.W. Shaw of Liberty, Tommy and wife Brenda Shaw of Cleveland, Ga.; sisters, Donna Frye of Burlington, Sandra Dodson of Graham and Ann Grigsby of Burlington; and several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Alamance-Caswell, 914 Chapel Hill Road, Burlington, N.C. 27215.
The family is deeply grateful for all the kindness and compassion shown to our beloved mother by the nurses and chaplain of Hospice.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
