Martha May
   BURLINGTON — Mrs. Martha May, 83, of 1305 Berkshire Road, Burlington, died at the Hospice Home on Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2013 at 9:20 a.m. following 12 years declining health and six months serious illness.

   A native of Caswell County, she was the wife of Walter May Jr., who survives, and the daughter of Walter K. Oakley and Ida Terrell Oakley, both deceased. She was formerly employed with Kayser-Roth and later retired as a telephone operator with AT&T. Martha was a member of St. Mark’s Church.

   In addition to her husband of the home, survivors include a daughter, Cynthia May Hawley of High Point; son, Randy May and fiancée Amy Hicks of Graham; three sisters, Annie May Bradford of Burlington, Eva Isom of Danville, Va. and Grace Baker and husband Curry of Burlington; five brothers, Walter Isaac Oakley and wife Doris of Danville, Va., Obie Oakley and wife Julia of Caswell County,Thurman Oakley and wife Lois of Burlington, Bill Oakley and wife Linda of Liberty and Bob Oakley and wife Betty Jean of Elon; and four grandchildren, Sherri May, Rodney Matthews, Bennett Hawley Jr. and Laureston Hawley.

   She was preceded in death by a sister, Frances Tatum; and two brothers, James Oakley and Ernest Oakley.

   The funeral service will be conducted at St. Mark’s Church on Friday, Feb. 22, 2013 at 2 p.m. by the Rev. Ben Bishop. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

   The family will receive friends at the Rich &Thompson Funeral and Cremation Service in Burlington on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. At other times they will be at the residence.

   Memorials may be made to the Hospice League of Alamance-Caswell, 918 Chapel Hill Road, Burlington, NC 27215 or to the Duke Cancer Center, 20 Duke Clinic Circle, Durham, NC 27710.

   The family would like to extend a special thanks to her doctor of 12 years, Dr. Paul Marcom, special nurse Renee Welch and the staff at Duke Cancer Center for the excellent care given to Martha.
