Cornellia Frances Oakley Tatum
BURLINGTON — Cornellia Frances Oakley Tatum, 83, of 2627 Faucette Lane, passed away Tuesday, December 2, 2008, at Alamance Regional Medical Center. She was the wife of the late Jessie Leonard Tatum Sr. and was born February 6, 1925, in Caswell County, to the late Walter Kitchen and Ida Sue Terrell Oakley. Frances retired from Annedeen then Monarch Hosiery after 40 years of service. She was an avid gardener and flower grower. She was also a member of Staley Memorial Baptist Church.
Survivors include her daughters, Cornellia Ann Talley and her husband, Lawrence, Sue Hall and her husband, Richard, all of Burlington; a son, Leonard Tatum Jr. and his wife, Edith, of Durham; sisters, Annie Mae Brafford of Burlington, Eva Isom of Danville, Va., Martha May and her husband, Walter, of Burlington, and Grace Baker and her husband, Currie, of Burlington; brothers, Obie Oakley and his wife, Julia, of Yanceyville, Thurman Oakley and his wife, Lois, of Burlington, Issac Oakley and his wife, Doris, of Danville, Va., Bill Oakley and his wife, Linda, of Burlington, Bob Oakley and his wife, Betty Jean, of Elon; six grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; a son Jackie Wayne Tatum; brothers, James "Pete" Oakley and Ernest Oakley.
The funeral will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Bennie Smith. Interment will follow in Alamance Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2:45 p.m. prior to the funeral, and other times at the home.
