Henry Thomas "Tommy" Michael, 87, of Michael Road, passed away Thursday morning May 22, 2014, at Forsyth Medical Center.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday at Tyro United Methodist Church, where he was a member, conducted by Rev. Randy Foster and Dr. Alan Rice. The family will receive friends following the service. Inurnment will be in the Tyro United Methodist Church Columbarium at a later date.

Tommy was born in Davidson County on October 3, 1926 to Henry Grady Michael and Beulah Thomas Shoaf Michael. He was a graduate of Tyro High School, served in the Army Air Corp during WWII and was a retired brick mason. He was a former member of Tyro Lions, a former chairman of the West Davidson School Board, and served in many capacities at his church including former Sunday School Superintendent and Chairman of the Building Committee. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Malbourne Michael and two sisters, Dean Michael Beck and Pat Michael Rogers.

He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years Esther Sharpe Michael of the home; sons, Tommy Michael and wife Susan and David Michael and wife Wilma all of Lexington; his daughter June Michael Pope and husband Patrick of Arlington VA; six grandchildren, David Varnedoe, Mary Thomas Varnedoe, Kristine Michael, Sara Michael, Angel Queen and Lydia Pope; and two great-grandchildren, Andrew and Cameron Queen.

The family has requested in lieu of flowers, memorials be directed to Tyro United Methodist Church, Building Fund 4484 South NC Highway 150, Lexington NC 27295.
