OBITUARIES John Aubrey McKinney
GIBSONVILLE — John Aubrey McKinney , 81, of 4531-B Troxler Mill Road, died at his home on Wednesday, August 3, 2005 after one year of failing health.
He was born in Caswell County, son of the late Samuel Dewey McKinney and the late Viola Byrd McKinney , and just recently celebrated 50 years of marriage to Agnes Hardy McKinney , who survives. Mr. McKinney retired from Burlington Industries after 25 years of service and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Aubrey was a member of Bethlehem Christian Church for over 43 years, where he served as a lifetime deacon, a trustee, and was a member of the Ever Ready Sunday school class.
He is survived by his wife of the home; daughter and sonin-law, Debbie and Jim Gokenbach of Simpsonville, S.C.; son and daughter-in-law, Jimmy and Cheryl McKinney of Burlington; grandchildren, Josh Cecil and Kendall McKinney ; brothers, Samuel McKinney of Graham and Sylvester McKinney and his wife, Jessie, of Burlington; and sister and brother-in-law, Nina and David Cale of Yorktown, Va. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, James Allen McKinney and William McKinney ; and a sister, Elizabeth M. Foster.
The funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday at Bethlehem Christian Church by the Rev. Dave Gilbert, and the Rev. Matt Smith. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 this evening at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory, and other times at the home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care Center of Alamance-Caswell, 914 Chapel Hill Road, Burlington, N.C. 27215 or to Bethlehem Christian Church, 3625 Altamahaw Church St., Elon, N.C. 27244.
