James “J.W.” Johnson

James “J.W.” Johnson, 84, passed away August 21, 2018 at his residence.
A 2 p.m. funeral service will be held Saturday, August 25, 2018 at Mt. Hope United Church of Christ, Whitsett, NC. The family will receive friends at the church from 6 until 8 p.m. Friday, August 24.

J.W. was born February 8, 1934 in Gibsonville, NC. He was employed with Overnite Transportation Company for almost 42 years. In addition, he worked with Neese’s Sausage for 12 years.
J.W. was a member of Mt. Hope United Church of Christ in Whitsett, NC. In addition, he was a member of Masonic Lodge #741 in Liberty, NC for 50 years. He also helped form the Mt. Hope Fire Department and served as a volunteer fireman for 41 years.
Preceding J. W. in death were his parents, Garland and Alese Barber, as well as a sister, Judy Ann Barber, and brothers, Larry Gene Barber and Garland B. Barber, Jr.
He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Helen C. Johnson. In addition, he is survived by his children, Karen Johnson Mounce (Dewayne), and James “Mike” Johnson (Lisa). Also surviving are Honorary Daughters, Debbie A. Underwood (Randy), Debra Clapp and Kayla Brady (Bradley). Other survivors include sisters, Evelyn “Mae” Barber Lamm and Debbie B. Page, as well as a brother, Alton Barber (Arline). He is also survived by “Special Grandchildren,” Lauren Moser, Ashley Chapmon, Brock Brady, Delainey Brady, Colton, Megan and Cory Underwood.
