Garland Boyd Barber , Sr.
GIBSONVILLE — Garland Boyd Barber , Sr. affectionately known as "Buck" left this earthly world at 2:33 p.m. on Friday, February 18, 2005, to go to be with the Lord. He was born in Alamance County, son of the late Rudy Russell Barber and the late Annie Estelle Ingle Barber and was married to Alese Naomi Johnson Barber , his wife of 69 years.
He was a charter and lifelong member of Brightwood Christian Church where he served on basically every committee at the church, especially the building committee, the finance committee, as a deacon and was eventually honored as a lifetime deacon. Mr. Barber was truly a pillar in the Brightwood community, gladly serving his church and his neighbors where his impact and influence will be greatly missed in the lives of all the homes and families he touched. "Buck" was also a carpenter, electrician, plumber, mason and all around handyman who would do anything for his neighbors, whom he loved and they loved in return. He retired from Glen Raven Mills in Glen Raven after 37 years of service.
He left this earth but also left many family members who loved him including his wife of the home, Alese Naomi Johnson Barber ; 2 daughters, Evelyn "Mae" Barber Lamm and her husband William of Gibsonville and Debbie Barber Page of Elon; 3 sons, James W. "J. W." Johnson and his wife Helen of Julian, Larry Gene Barber and his wife Yvonne "Bonnie" of Graham, Alton Theodore Barber , Sr. and his wife Arline of Gibsonville; 24 grandchildren; 59 great grandchildren; 41 great great grandchildren; and 2 sisters, Dovie Barber Clapp of Julian and Evelyn Barber Andrews of Gibsonville. He was preceded in death by his son, Garland B. Barber , Jr.; daughter, Judy Ann Barber ; sisters, Bessie Barber Clapp, Thelma Barber Rice, Lavonna Barber Huggins; brothers, Raymond Russell Barber , Theodore W. Barber and his parents.
The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at Brightwood Christian Church by Rev. Bruce Church and Rev. Don Lyerly. Burial will follow in Alamance Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6-8 Monday evening at the church and other times at the home, 264 Brightwood Church Rd in Gibsonville. Mr. Barber may be viewed at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory on Monday prior to the visitation and on Tuesday prior to the service.
