John Edwin Lassiter


    BURLINGTON — John Edwin Lassiter, 83, of 118 Alamance Road, died Sunday, May 24, 2009, at Alamance Regional Medical Center.
    Mr. Lassiter was born in Smithfield and grew up as a tobacco farmer. He was retired from Copeland Fabrics with 25 years service. He was a member of Temple Baptist Church and was an avid fisherman.
    He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, greatgrandfather and brother to: his wife,Yvonne Jane Faulkner Lassiter, of the home; daughters, Diane Garner and husband, David, of Burlington, Jane Terrell and husband, David, of Graham, Faye Hunt, of Graham, and Denise Spencer and husband, Terry, of Asheboro; sons, Edwin Lee Lassiter, of Haw River, Kent Lassiter and wife, Penny, of Burlington, and John Lassiter Jr. and wife, Lorie, of Graham; 12 grandchildren; 18 greatgrandchildren; sisters, Betty Lou Cranford, of Gibsonville, Carolyn Greer and husband, Owen, of Summerville, S.C., and Mary Bowman, of Burlington; and brothers, Alfred Lassiter Jr., Currie Lee Lassiter and wife, Bessie, Hulon Lassiter, and Hal Lassiter and wife, Olivia, all of Burlington.
    He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred David Lassiter and Swanee King Lassiter; a son, John Vernon Lassiter; and sisters, Christine Rudd, Mattie May Self, Lois Porter and Sarah Jane Lassiter.
    The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 27, 2009, at Temple Baptist Church in Haw River with the Rev. James Black, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Mc-Cray Cemetery.
    The family will receive friends at McClure Funeral Home in Graham from 6 until 8 Tuesday evening. Other times, they will be at the home of Faye Hunt, 1344 E. Main St., Graham.
