Leona Terrell Chandler, 89, of 900 Oakview Loop Road, Yanceyville, N.C. passed away at her residence Tuesday, January 1, 2019. A native of Caswell County, she was the wife of the late Dewey Otis Chandler, Jr., and the daughter of the late Henry Edward Terrell and Lucy Simmons Terrell. Leona was a lifelong homemaker and farmer’s wife, who dedicated her life to raising their family and working side by side with her husband on their farm. She was a member of Bush Arbor Primitive Baptist Church. She is survived by: her son, Dwight O. Chandler and his wife Tracy of Yanceyville; a daughter, Susan C. Newcomb and her husband Marty of Yanceyville; a son-in-law, James L. Newcomb, Jr. of Danville, VA; two sisters, Selma Simpson of Raleigh and Mary Menefee of Burlington; four grandchildren, Jamie Newcomb and his wife Sasha, Ryan Newcomb and his wife Mary, Reagan Gural and her husband Casey, and Emma Cook and her husband Jayce; four step-grandchildren, Eddie Newcomb and his wife Dana, Nadia Adams, Alex Newcomb, and Jordan Newcomb; four great-grandchildren, Chandler Gural, Elijah Newcomb, Colson Cook and Caleigh Cook; and four great-step-grandchildren, Tyler Newcomb, Elaina Newcomb, Amelia Poteat, and Addilynn Newcomb; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by: her son, Dewey Otis Chandler III; her daughter, Wanda Chandler Newcomb; sisters and brothers-in-law, Pearl Jane Florence and Joseph Tate, Erma Susan and Herman Swift, Lillie May and Raleigh Walker, Virginia Elizabeth and Calvin Terry; brothers and sisters-in-law, Henry Preston and Ila Matkins Terrell, George William and Louise Pyrant Terrell, Ben Harding and Irene Aldridge Terrell; and brothers-in-law Burch Simpson, Cleveland (Sam) Watson, and Cliff Menefee. Special thanks are extended to her caregivers, Kirstie Strickland and Brooke Bullard, and to Hospice and Palliative Care of Alamance-Caswell. The funeral service will be conducted at 3pm on Thursday, January 3, 2019, at Bush Arbor Primitive Baptist Church in Yanceyville, with burial immediately following in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4pm - 6pm in the church sanctuary immediately following the service.
