Kenneth "Ken" Vernon Montgomery, also known as "Skinner" a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, peacefully passed away on January 25, 2025, at his residence.
He was born on August 31, 1934, in Caswell County. Ken lived a life filled with purpose, dedication, and love for his family.
Ken served honorably in the United States Army during the Korean War, a testament to his character and commitment to his country.
In addition to his military service, he found joy and fulfillment through his passion for sports, having played semi-professional baseball, a proud accomplishment that filled him with great pride.
After his service in the military, he retired with over 50 years of service from Burlington Industries in the Transportation Division. Ken was an avid Duke Basketball fan; he loved watching and cheering for them to win.
He is survived by his cherished wife, Naomie Montgomery: children, Keith Montgomery (Susie), Victoria Briggs, and Bridget McLean (Bobby); step-daughter, Sandra Watkins and step-son, David Durham (Madonna). Ken's legacy continues through his grandchildren: Jaclyn Parrish, Christin Montgomery, Jacob Briggs (Chelsea), Lauren "Luann" Robinson (Lance), Will "Fuzzy" Briggs, Daniel McLean (Brittany), Patrick McLean (Cydni), Matthew McLean (Jessica), and Sarah Larow (Ken) and step grandson, Wayne Durham (Lori) and step-daughter, Rita Routh.
He was a proud grandfather to 16 great-grandchildren, whose lives he touched deeply; sisters, Shirley Isley, Naomi Cates and many nieces and nephews.
Ken was predeceased by his father, William Montgomery; mother, Edna Rice Montgomery; and his sisters, Sue Davis and Betty Jo Montgomery, and Barbara Lawrence.
Throughout his life, Ken inspired those around him with his unwavering spirit, warmth, and kindness.
A funeral service will be held 2:00 PM, Friday, January 31, 2025 at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory with Chaplin Hunter Thomas officiating.
Family will receive friends from 1:00-1:45 PM prior. Committal will follow at Alamance Memorial Park.
His family and friends will forever remember him as a pillar of strength, a man of integrity, and a loving presence in their lives. Ken will be dearly missed but will live on in the hearts of those who knew him.
