Louise King Matkins
BURLINGTON — Mrs. Louise King Matkins, 95, of Twin Lakes Community, Coble Health Care, died at her residence Thursday, June 16, 2016.
A native of Caswell County, she was the wife of the late Clarence C. Matkins and the daughter of Joseph Henry and Eva Walker King, both deceased. She was a graduate of Anderson High School, Caswell County, and married her sweetheart of 67 years on Dec. 8, 1939. A gifted and talented homemaker and seamstress, she owned and operated Matkins Fabric Shop in Reidsville, NC from 1961-1989.
She was a member of Shiloh United Methodist Church, a lifetime member of the United Methodist Women and a member of the Christian Workers Class of Shiloh. She was a former member of the Altamahaw Ossipee Civitan Club and Fiesta Dance Club.
She is survived by four daughters, Jo Ann Matkins Nash and husband Luther, Becky Matkins Joyce and husband Leon, Barbara Matkins Williams and husband Richard, all of Burlington, and Carol Matkins Apple and husband Ronald of Elon; seven grandchildren, Nick Harris, Ann Donnelly, Emily Harris, Heather Wilson, Nicole Wilkerson, Natalie Ely and Allison Apple; 10 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Mary Alice King Madden of Burlington and Mrs. Rachel King Pope (Harry) of Cedar Grove; and one sister-in-law, Mrs. Gloria Matkins DeMarra of Burlington.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Mamie Sue King Simmons; and three brothers, W. Lewis King, W. Thomas King and J. Wayne King.
The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, June 20, 2016, at Shiloh United Methodist Church, 4718 North NC 87, Gibsonville, NC 27249. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Following the Committal Service, the family will receive friends in the Fellowship Hall. At other times, the family will be at the home of Leon and Becky Joyce.

The family expresses deep gratitude to Dr. Richard Letvak, the staff at the Twin Lakes, Coble Health Care, the staff at Blakey Hall-The Cottage and to dear friends and her “special ladies” for the love and care given to our Mother.
