Melvin Ervin Mahaley
BURLINGTON — Melvin Ervin Mahaley, age 65, passed away on Sunday, Sept. 25, 2011, at his home. He was a native of Caswell County and the son of the late Irving James and Lena Rice Mahaley.
Melvin worked for Burlington Industries for many years and was later employed with West Point Stevens for 12 years until it closed. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving in the Vietnam War.
Melvin was a builder and he enjoyed landscaping and gardening. He was a devoted father and grandfather and will be greatly missed by his family.
Survivors include his daughter, Amanda Knighten and her husband, John of Burlington; sons, Shawn Mahaley of Liberty and Kevin Mahaley of Asheville, N.C.; grandchildren, Jordan and Jeremy Mahaley, Olivia and Claire Knighten; sisters, Helen Starling of Graham, Nancy Teague and her husband, Jimmy of Elon. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Arthur Mahaley.
A service to celebrate his life will be held on Friday, Sept. 30, 2011 at 4 p.m. at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Henry Swanzey. The 82nd Airborne Division will provide military honors at the service in the chapel.
The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the funeral home. A private family interment will be held at a later date.
