Clyde Curtis Matkins
 

 
 ELON — Clyde Curtis Matkins, age 89 passed away on Friday, January 30, 2015 at his home surrounded by his family. He was a native of Alamance County and the husband of the late Naomi Satterfield Matkins.
 
 Clyde retired from the Mayfair Plant of Burlington Industries after 54 years. He was a veteran of the US Marine Corp receiving a purple heart from wounds received in the Battle of Peleiu in the Pacific during WW II. Clyde enjoyed gardening and going to auctions. He was an avid NASCAR fan. Clyde will be remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.
 
 He is survived by his daughter, Pam May of Burlington; sons, Dennis Matkins and wife, Gloria, Kennon Matkins and wife, Gwen and Anthony Matkins and wife, Jennie all of Burlington; grandchildren, Teresa Cobb, Christopher Matkins, Scott Matkins, Cody Matkins, Ben Matkins, Lindsey Matkins and Alisha Pruitt; 6 great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Lela Johnson of Burlington and several nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, son, Curtis Matkins and parents, James Dennis and Nellie Mae Martin Matkins; sisters, Alma Matkins, Ruby Kernodle and Stella Smith.
 
 A service to celebrate his life will be held on Monday, February 2, 2015 at 1:00 pm at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Darrell Massey and the burial will follow at Alamance Memorial Park with military honors. The family will receive friends from 11:45-12:45 pm prior to the services on Monday at the funeral home and other times at the home.
 
 The family will would like to thank the nurses and staff of Hospice for their kind and compassionate care for Clyde during his illness.
