Van Lindley Bowman
BURLINGTON — Van Lindley Bowman , age 92, of Wade Coble Drive, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, December 13, 2007, at Twin Lakes Center. He was a native of Guilford County, and the husband of the late Kathleen Foster Bowman and Pearl Joyner Bowman , who survives.
Van retired from the U.S. Department of Agriculture as a N.C. Meat Inspector. He was a member of Union Ridge Church and a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great- grandfather.
Survivors include his wife, Pearl Joyner Bowman of Leonardtown, Maryland; daughter and son-in-law, Vanda Kay Boggs and her husband, Harold Dean, of Burlington; son and daughterin-law, Mac D. Bowman and his wife, Sue, of Burlington; grandchildren, Gary Boggs and his wife, Donna, of Burlington, Vanessa Surles and her husband, Charles, of High Point, Doug Bowman and his wife, Mary Jane, of Semora and Vance Bowman and his wife, Angie, of Six Mile, South Carolina; eight great-grandchildren; brothers and sistersin-law, Donald Bowman and his wife, Avalee, of Wallace and Howard Bowman and his wife, Myrtle, of Liberty.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Kathleen Foster Bowman ; parents, Lawrence and Callie Clapp Bowman ; sister, Ruth B. Terrell; brothers, H. L. "Mutt" Bowman , H.L. "Jeff " Bowman , Richard and Vernon Bowman .
The family would like to express their appreciation for the outstanding care and love by the Twin Lakes staff at the Coble Health Care Center.
A committal service will be held on Saturday, December 15, 2007 at 3 p.m. in the sanctuary of Union Ridge Church by the Rev. Dan Ficklin. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends following the service in the fellowship hall of the church and other times at the home of the daughter and son-in-law, Kay and Harold Dean Boggs, 6231 Union Ridge Road, Burlington, N.C. 27217.
Memorials may be made to Union Ridge Church, c/o The Activity Center Fund, 115 Altamahaw-Union Ridge Road, Burlington, N.C. 27217.

Final rites were held at 3 o'clock this afternoon for Mrs. Kathleen Foster Bowman, 47, of Rt. 2, Burlington, at Union Ridge United Church of Christ. Mrs. Bowman died suddenly at her home at 7 o'clock Saturday night.
The service was conducted by H. Winfred Bray, pastor, assisted by the Rev. Kenneth Register, pastor of the Beverly Hills United Church of Christ. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Bowman was a native of Alamance County, daughter of the late Mack Jefferson and Mrs. Georgianne Warren Foster. She was a member of the Union Ridge United Church of Christ.
Surviving are her husband, Van L. Bowman of the home; one daughter, Mrs. Vanda Kay Boggs of Rt. 2, Burlington; one son, Mac D. Bowman of Elon College; one sister, Mrs. Henry Clay Page of Rt. 2, Burlington; one brother, Mack Foster of Rt. 2, Burlington, and one grandchild.

Pearl Simmons Joyner Bowman
LEONARDTOWN, Md. — Mrs. Pearl Simmons Joyner Bowman, 95, died peacefully at her residence in Cedar Lane Apartments, Leonardtown, Md. on Sunday, Nov. 6, 2011, following a number of years of declining health.
A native of Caswell County, N.C., she was the daughter of Elisha L. Simmons and Martha Rice Simmons, both deceased.
Prior to moving to Leonardtown in September 1998, she lived in Burlington, N.C. for over 30 years, and was an active member of Union Ridge Church where, in 1984, she was chosen as “Mother of the Year” by the Senior High Youth. Pearl was an accomplished seamstress who for over 40 years fashioned an abundance of highly crafted clothing for her family, nieces, nephews and grandchildren. Over the years, there was many a young child who was delighted by her special gifts of clothing at Christmas, on birthdays and for school. As with her sewing abilities, throughout her life she willingly gave of her time, talent and finances to assist family, church and friends. She was a friend to all.
Survivors include two sons, Thomas W. Joyner Jr. (Emily) of Lexington Park, Md., and Ronald C. Joyner (Carol) of Poquoson, Va.; three granddaughters, Helen Murphy (Doug) of Goochland, Va., Stephanie Joyner of Catonsville, Md., and Rebecca Joyner of The Hague, Netherlands; and two grandsons, Donald Joyner (Dottie) and Courtney Joyner (Kelly) of Poquoson, Va.; three great-granddaughters, Gwen and Astrid Jensen of Catonsville, Md. and Adriana Joyner of Poquoson, Va.,; and three great-grandsons, Sean and Aiden Murphy of Goochland, Va. and Michael Joyner of Poquoson, Va. She is also survived by two sisters, Grace Shambley of Snow Camp and Francis Gilliam of Union Ridge; and one brother, Felix Simmons of Henderson, N.C.; and many nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Bowman was preceded in death by husbands Thomas W. Joyner Sr. of Petersburg, Va. and Van L. Bowman of Burlington, N.C.; and infant son, Donald L. Joyner; nine brothers, Roy, Otis, Porter, Luther, Ben, Robert, Clyde, Leonard, and Augrum Simmons; and four sisters, Eunice Roberts, Daisy Tate, Gladys Page, and Lessie Simmons.
The funeral services will be conducted by the Rev. Dan Ficklin, Senior Pastor, Union Ridge Church, at Rich &Thompson Funeral Home in Burlington on Monday, Nov. 14, 2011 at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at Pine Hill Cemetery in Burlington.
The family will receive friends at Rich & Thompson Funeral Home in Burlington, N.C. on Sunday, Nov. 13, 2011 from 4 until 6 p.m.
