BURLINGTON – Dr. Rebecca Webster Graves, 73, of Burlington died at the Hospice Home in Burlington on Thursday, February 9, 2017.
A native of Alamance County, she was the wife of 52 years to William Lee Graves, who survives and the daughter of Goley Webster and Daisy Ruth Murr Webster, both deceased.
Rebecca received her Bachelors of Arts from Elon University and her Masters and Doctorate from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She worked as a teacher with the Burlington City Schools and Alamance Burlington School System for over 40 years.
Her last 15 years were spent teaching academically gifted children. Rebecca was of the Methodist faith and taught Sunday school in her younger years at Bethany Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed the Arts and was a lifelong educator and learner. She was involved with several educational organizations and received several educational awards. Rebecca enjoyed going to flea markets, traveling and antiques. She was a member of the Alpha Delta Kappa Sorority and was Miss Graham in 1962.
In addition to her husband William, of the home, she is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth Graves Gabriel and husband Charles of Wilmington; two grandchildren, Joshua Chase Turnage and Chloe Catherine Elizabeth Turnage both of Wilmington; three sisters, Josie Webster, Renee Webster Gardner and husband Ricky, and Julie Webster Strickland and husband Jimmy all of Wilmington; three brothers, Goley Keith Webster and wife Kathy of Graham, John Webster and wife Kay of Kill Devil Hills, and Mark Webster of Graham.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Wesley William Turnage.
A memorial service will be held at the Rich & Thompson Chapel on Sunday, February 12, 2017 at 3 p.m. by Rev. Norman Whitney. The family will receive friends prior to the memorial service at Rich & Thompson from 1:45 p.m. until 2:45 p.m. At other times the family will be at the residence.
