BURLINGTON — Joel Richardson , age 85, of 4757 N.C. 49 South, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, October 18, 2007, at his son’s home surrounded by his family. Joel was a native of Rockingham County, and the husband of the late Cathleen Allred Richardson .
Joel retired from the Dan River Mills and attended the First Baptist Church of Alamance. He was an avid fan of minor league baseball, and he and his wife traveled locally and regionally to follow various teams.
Survivors include his sons and daughters-in-law, Dr. Tommy Richardson and his wife, Lucille, of Burlington, Clint Richardson and his fiancée, Kim Morris, of Reidsville; daughter and son-in-law, Jo Ellen Santa and her husband, Tom, of Burlington; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a brother, Dale Richardson of Burlington; sisters, Lillian Culberson-Roberts of Kannapolis, Thelma Carver of Burlington.
He was preceded in death by his wife; parents, James E. and Lula Kay Harris Richardson ; a brother, Charles A. Richardson ; and a sister, Esther Briggs Workman.
The funeral service will be held on Sunday, October 21, 2007 at 2 p.m. at the Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Dr. Tommy Richardson and the Rev. Daniel Gregory. Burial will follow at Friendship United Methodist Church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home, and other times at the residence.
