BURLINGTON - Anthony Broughton Miller, 46, of Burlington passed away unexpectedly Friday, August 27th, 2021 at AuthoraCare CollectiveHospice Home.
A native of Alamance County, he was the son of Dennis BroughtonMiller and GayleWrightMiller. He graduated fromWalter M. WilliamsHigh School and continued his education atWestern Carolina University where he received his degree in Parks and RecreationManagement. Fromthere he continued his education at the PGA Tour Golf Academy. Anthony dedicated 15 years of his work career to Forest Oaks Country Club in Greensboro where he was GeneralManager.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his son, Preston Broughton Miller and his mother, Brandy Marchisello; two half-sisters, Cindy Long (Don) and Robin Jones (Danny); his cousin (who was more like a brother) Brad McKee (Heather); his aunt, Mary Dean McKee, nieces, numerous cousins, and friends. Anthony was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Dora andHoward“Smokey”Wright, paternal grandparents, Bessie and Broughton“Curly” Miller and uncle, DonMcKee (Mary Deane).
Anthony began his love of golf at a very young age. He would work as a ball collector on the driving range at Southwick Golf Course. They would allow him to play for free if he picked balls. From there he would play on the golf team atWilliamsHigh School. While in college, he knew he wanted to continue his love for golf and worked at Wade Hampton Golf Course in Cashiers during the summer break. After he graduated, he continued his work at Wade Hampton as assistant golf pro for several years. Once he began work at Forest Oaks Country Club he found the right fit to be around his family and friends and continue a career he loved. He had a strong relationship with all of the members and considered them all friends, many his best friends.
Anyone who met Anthony knew he was a great guy. He loved his family, his friends and none more than his son. He took joy in grilling out on the weekends with his dad and talking for hours. He played the guitar and listened to many types of music. He adored his mother and helped take care of her as she became ill with dementia. Anthony was always talking about trips with his friends to golf courses, concerts, and to the mountains. If you were his friend, you were his friend for life. He held each one close to his heart. His greatest joy and love was his son, Preston. He would always talk about how proud he was of his academic accomplishments and watching him play baseball. He stated many times he was his pride and joy in life.
A memorial service will be conducted at the Rich and Thompson Chapel in Burlington on Thursday, September 2, 2021. Family will receive friends and family from 4:00 until 5:00 with the service following at 5:00.
