 HILLSBOROUGH, N.C.
 
— Lillian Troxler Barber, 89, passed away on Saturday, March 8, 2014, at Brookshire Nursing Center in Hillsborough, N.C.
 
 Lillian was born in Rockingham County on Jan. 24, 1925. She attended Bethany High School. She married her World War II pen pal, Layton Barber, and lived in the Sumner community until the death of her husband in 2005. She grew up on a farm and always wanted the farm life. She was employed at American Tobacco, Burlington Industries, and Kayser-Roth. She was a member of Rehobeth United Methodist Church for 67 years. Her greatest joy was her extended family.
 
 Lillian was preceded in death by her parents, Henry Troxler and Carrie Bailey Troxler, her husband Layton Barber; sister, Margaret Booker of Carthage, N.C.; brothers, Lonnie Troxler of Robbins, N.C. and Harvey Troxler of Summerfi eld, N.C.
 
 She is survived by her son; Phillip W. Barber and wife Donna of Mebane, N.C.; grandson, Phillip D. Barber of Raleigh, N.C.; sisters, Charity Barber of Carthage, N.C., Evelyn Upchurch of Ramseur, N.C., Virginia Verschoore of Milan, Ill. and brother John Henry Troxler of Carthage, N.C. along with a host of nieces and nephews.
 
 The family wishes to express their deep appreciation to Donna and the staff at Brookshire Nursing Center for the wonderful care Lillian was given for the past seven years.
 
 Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 12, at 2 p.m. at Hanes Lineberry Sedgefield Chapel with burial to follow at Guilford Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Hanes Lineberry Sedgefield Chapel.
