Otis “Toothpick Otis” Eugene Perkins, 86, of Graham passed away suddenly on Friday, October 17, 2025.
A native of Danville, Va., he was the loving husband of Joyce Lankford Perkins, who survives and the son of Charlie Otis Perkins and Minnie Pearl Hayden Perkins, both deceased.
Otis lived on the farm with his sister, Annabell for a few years before joining the United States Army. After his time in service, Otis started working at White Furniture Company in Mebane and then worked at the Burlington Water Plant for a few years. He later worked with the Alamance County Sheriff Department where he retired as a Lieutenant. He loved his time with the Sheriff’s Dept. and that’s where he received the nickname “Toothpick Otis”.
He also volunteered with the Mebane Fire department and was a member of the Thomas M. Holt Lodge #492 AF &AM in Graham.
Otis enjoyed spending time woodworking, specially making furniture and taking care of their animals. He had a big heart for animals and was so proud of Carolyn for taking in and caring for large farm animals.
In addition to his wife of their home, he is survived by a special stepdaughter, Carolyn Sharpe of Burlington; special nephews and nieces, Paul Myers, Phil Myers, George Myers, Gloria Heydlauff, and Lawanna Thomas; other special nieces and nephews; and loving grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ester Perkins; second wife, Ann Perkins; stepson, William Kenneth Sharpe; sisters, Carrie Williams, Annabell Myers, Nancy Wider, Barbara DeBoe; and five brothers, Melvin, Billy, Charles, Frank and Irvin Perkins.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 am on Saturday, October 25, 2025 at the Rich & Thompson Chapel in Graham with the family receiving friends from 10:00 am to 11:00 am prior to the service.
The burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Mebane.
