    BURLINGTON — Daniel Durwood Massey, age 79, of 167 Boone Road, passed away peacefully on February 7, 2010 at The Homeplace of Burlington.
    A native of Alamance County, he was born on December 5, 1930 to the late William Felix and Lilian Walker Massey.
    As a young man, Dan served his country in the National Guard for a brief time, then began working as a general contractor. He was President of Alamance Ready-Mix Concrete from 1962-1981. He was a former member of the Home Builders Association, past president of the Lakeview Civitan Club, an active member of the Burlington Moose Lodge and the Ala-Cas Hunting Club. Daniel enjoyed deer hunting with his sons, nephews and grandsons and would never pass up a fishing trip with the family on his boat at Emerald Isle beach!
    Daniel is survived by his wife of 57 years, Peggy Tingen Massey of the home; four sons, Randy Massey and wife Cheryl of Burlington, David Massey and wife Roxanne of Stuarts Draft, Va., Philip Massey and wife Amy of Burlington and Christopher V. Massey of Burlington; a sister, Valerie Massey Byrd and husband Glenn of Burlington and many nieces and nephews. Other survivors include Ashley Nicole Massey, his daughter/granddaughter and grandchildren, Tyler Massey, Brittany Massey, Chelsea Massey, Bryan Massey and Shannon Massey. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Herbert Vernon Massey.
    A funeral serviceandcelebrationofDaniel’s life will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, February 13, 2010 in the Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Reid Dickens. Entombment will follow in the Alamance Memorial Park Mausoleum. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 11 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Saturday prior to the funeral service and at other times at the residence.
    The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Michael Roy and Dr. J.D. Stern of Vanguard Brain and Spine in Greensboro and to Dr. Mark Crissman, Dr. Williams, Dr. Herbon Fleming, the staff of Liberty Commons and The Homeplace of Burlington for the wonderful care that they gave to my husband and our father.
