Mr. Edmund L. "Toot" Thompson
GRAHAM — Mr. Edmund L. "Toot" Thompson, 81, of 1910 Hanford Road, died at 2:17 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 12, 2009, at Alamance Regional Medical Center after a brief illness.
A native of Alamance County, he was the husband of Eleanor Swink Thompson and the son of the late Onslow Osborne Thompson Sr. and the late Mattie Crawford Thompson.
He served in the United States Air Force for four years during the Korean Conflict and graduated from Elon College. He later became owner of Southeastern Adjustment Company and the Alamance Adjustors. He was a charter member of the Board of Directors of Alamance National Bank, now known as Community One, of which he served on the Advisory Board.
He was a member of Bethany Presbyterian Church where he served as an elder and an insurance consultant for the church.
In addition to his wife of the home, he is survived by a daughter, Lora T. Stutts and her husband Roger of Burlington; two grandchildren, Sarah and Jennifer Burton; one stepgranddaughter, Tracey Beckom and her husband Michael; and one sister, Miss Linda Thompson of Graham.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Onslow Osborne "Double O" Thompson Jr.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 14, 2009, at the Rich and Thompson Chapel in Graham by the Rev. Jennie Hemrick and the Rev. Norman M. Whitney Sr. The burial will follow at Bethel United Methodist Church cemetery in Snow Camp.
The family will receive friends at the Rich andThompson Funeral Home in Graham on Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. At other times they will be at the residence.
