OBITUARIES Allen Alfred Iseley

BURLINGTON — A remarkable man has gone home to be with his Lord and his loved ones who have gone before.
Allen Alfred Iseley  was born June 28, 1919, to Jerome and Mary Ross Iseley  on the same Alamance County farm on which he died, Monday, July 10, 2006. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ann Clyde Norcom Iseley ; brother, Edward F. Iseley ; and a sister, Rena Maude Danieley. He is survived by his niece, N. Jane Iseley .
Allen  graduated from A-O High School and then from Elon College in 1941. He remained on the family farm, where he became a successful cattleman and tobacco farmer. In later years he was named the Alamance County Outstanding Conservation Farmer of the year.
Allen  was a member of the Burlington Lions Club for more than 45 years, serving in many positions, including president. He was also active in the Burlington Toastmasters. In 1972 he was given a Citation of Merit in Recognition of Outstanding Achievement not withstanding his Physical Limitations, which warranted his selection as Alamance County’s "Handicapped Person of the Year." The following year he was named to the North Carolina State Commission for the Blind. In 1976 he was named A-O Civitan Citizen of the Year.
Over the last six years of his life as Alzheimer’s disease took its toll with him, there have been four very special caretakers and friends who have faithfully watched over him; Douglas Pinnix, Johnny Slade, Elizabeth Jones and Becky Cates.
Allen  was a member of Bethlehem Christian Church, where a graveside service will be held today, July 12, 2006 at 4 p.m. by Dr. J. Earl Danieley, and the Rev. Dave Gilbert. The family will be at the home on the farm, 2960 Burch Bridge Road, Burlington, N.C. 27217.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Allen  A. Iseley  Scholarship Fund at Elon University, 2600 Campus Box, Elon, N.C. 27244; Hospice and Palliative Care Center of Alamance-Caswell, 914 Chapel Hill Road, Burlington, N.C. 27215 or the charity of your choice.
Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of the arrangements.
Condolences may be sent to the family at info@lowefuneralhome.com 3, Allen Alfred Iseley
