BURLINGTON — Mrs. Lurline McKinney Bennett, 88, of The Village at Brookwood, died at Alamance Regional Medical Center on Saturday, July 11, 2009, at 11:18 p.m. following several years of declining health.
A native of Caswell County, she was the wife of Robert G. Bennett, who survives, and the daughter of William Andrew McKinney and Maude Ellen Boswell McKinney, both deceased. Active civically, she was a registrar for the Board of Elections and a member of the Board of Adjustments at Kure Beach, N.C. She was past Worthy Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star, Battle of Alamance Chapter. Mrs. Bennett was former member of the First Baptist Church of Graham, where she had been head of the Women’s Missionary Union at the church, Sunday school teacher, and pianist for children’s activities. She was a member of Carolina Beach Presbyterian Church, where she was awarded a lifetime membership in the Presbyterian Women.
In addition to her husband of the home, survivors include her daughter, Mrs. Barbara Bennett Byrd and husband, Robert, of Burlington; her son, Mr. John A. Bennett of Durham; a sister, Mrs. Florine McKinney Dixon of Burlington; and two grandchildren, Jonathon S. Bennett and Kristine M. Bennett, both of Wilson, N.C.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Mrs. Marilynn Bennett Brooks; and five brothers, Mr. G.T. Burton McKinney, Mr. William Clyde McKinney, Mr. Sylvester O. McKinney, Mr. Howard W. McKinney and Mr. Samuel Floyd McKinney.
The funeral service will be conducted at Graham Presbyterian Church on Tuesday, July 14, 2009, at 11 a.m. by the Rev. Steve Braswell. Burial will follow at Alamance Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends at the Rich & Thompson Funeral and Cremation Service in Burlington on Monday from 6 until 8 p.m., and also in the church parlor from 10 to 10:45 a.m. prior to the service Tuesday.
