    BURLINGTON — Mr. Paul Bennett Dixon, 85, died Saturday, June 13, 2009, at 3:17 a.m. in Moses Cone Memorial Hospital in Greensboro after a period of failing health.
    Mr. Dixon was a native of Alamance County and the husband of Florine McKinney Dixon. He was the son of the late Van Bennett Dixon and the late Bertie Neal Griffin Dixon.
    Mr. Dixon was a World War II veteran, serving with the U.S. Navy. He was retired from Western-Electric and was of the Baptist faith. Mr. Dixon was an artist, avid golfer and woodworker.
    In addition to his wife, Florine, of the home, he is survived by his daughter, Paula Dixon Avery and her husband, Roy, of Elon; his son, Neal Bennett Dixonand hiswife,Barbara, of Burlington; three sisters, Anna Jean Kennedy of Sebring, Fla., Becky Councilman of Alamance, and Pat Qualls of Burlington; a sister-in-law, Polly Dixon, of Burlington, and a brother- in-law, Jimmy Strickland, of Richmond, Va. He was preceded in death by four sisters, Violet Wilson, Mildred Dixon Wilson, Rosella Allred and Mary Strickland; and one brother, Jimmy M. Dixon.
    The service will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, June 15 at the Rich and Thompson Chapel in Burlington. Officiating will be the Rev. Dr. Dale O. Steele. Burial will follow in Alamance Memorial Park.
    The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. prior to the service.
