Oma Holt Riley
Mrs. Oma Holt Riley, 99, of Elon passed away at The Oaks of Alamance on Wednesday, April 29, 2020 at 11:00 p.m. following an extended illness.
Born December 25, 1920 in Alamance County, she was the wife of the late L. Sam Riley and the daughter of Johnnie Green Holt and Maud McAdams Holt, both deceased.
Mrs. Riley was a homemaker. She worked in the garden freezing vegetables and canning food. She was a wonderful cook, especially her desserts. Oma loved working in her flowers. She was an excellent seamstress, making her and her daughters’ clothes.
Mrs. Riley was a member of Beverly Hills United Church of Christ where she was a dedicated worker, always helping with the meals and the big Brunswick Stews they used to have at the church. She was a deaconess and a member of the choir, Ladies’ Circle and Hustlers’ Sunday School Class.
Oma loved her family especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Survivors include her daughter, Marca Riley Councilman and husband Bruce of Graham; two grandchildren, Christal
Councilman and Kelly LaTour and husband, Bobby; and four great grandchildren, Caleb LaTour, Micah LaTour, Trinity LaTour and Zion LaTour. She was preceded in death by her son, L. Ruaine Riley and two sisters, Bertha Holt and Margaret Holt Riley.
In light of the recent restrictions due to the Coronavirus, a private graveside service will be conducted at Alamance Memorial Park.
The family would like to thank The Oaks of Alamance for the excellent care of their mom. Thanks to all the staff members and Hospice care, and also for Jan, Rusty and Sarah who were so very helpful and caring to mom. She loved all of you.
