BURLINGTON — Brona Smith Herndon, age 89, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, December 27, 2010 at Alamance Regional Medical Center. She was a native of Caswell County and the wife of the late Robert Anderson Herndon.
Brona was a member of Bethel Christian Church where she served for several years as a deaconess. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed sewing for her family and friends. Brona was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and greatgrandmother.
Survivors include her sons, Robert Wayne Herndon of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, Donnie L. Herndon and his wife, Suzanne of Burlington; grandson, Robert Chad Herndon and his wife, Christy of Elon; great-granddaughters, Hailey Herndon and Carley Shea Herndon; sisters, Nellie Smith Rudd, Elva Smith Apple, Inez Smith Conklin and Erma Smith Matherly and her husband, Leonard all of Burlington; brothers, Johnnie Smith and his wife, Mildred of King, Fred Smith and his wife, Judy of Elon. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, Lester Hassell and Mattie Belle McKinney
Smith; brothers, Earl J. Smith, Eugene Wesley Smith and Roy Hassell Smith.
A service to celebrate her life will be held on Thursday, December 30, 2010 at 11 a.m. at Bethel Christian Church by Rev. Barry L. Lane and the burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m. on Wednesday at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory and other times at the home.
