Mary Joyce Slaughter Chandler
Mary Joyce Slaughter Chandler, 85, of Yanceyville, died Saturday, December 7, 2019 at the Hospice Home in Burlington.
A native of Caswell County, Mrs. Chandler was the wife of the late Wilbur Gwynn Chandler, Sr. and the daughter of the late Louie Taylor Slaughter and the late Vera Smith Slaughter.
Mr. and Mrs. Chandler were tobacco and cattle farmers.
Mrs. Chandler was a life time and dedicated member of the First Baptist Church of Yanceyville, where she served on the Fellowship Committee. She was a member of the Caswell County Home Demonstration Club.
Mrs. Chandler is survived by her sons, Wilbur (Sonny) Chandler, Jr. and his wife, Cindy, and Anthony Reed Chandler and his wife, Karen, all of Yanceyville; three grandchildren, Dawn Hughes and her husband, Mark, Phillip Chandler and Mary Beth Chandler; two greatgrandchildren, Makayla Hughes and Lucas Hughes, and two sisters, Peggy Watson and Hazel Massey.
In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Chandler was preceded in death by two sisters, Vera Gentry and Dean Watlington and a brother, Taylor Slaughter.
The funeral service will be held Tuesday, December 10, 2019 at 11:00 AM at the First Baptist Church of Yanceyville. Officiating will be the Rev. Dave Winstead. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends in the church after the committal service.
In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorials be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Alamance Caswell, 914 Chapel Hill Road, Burlington, NC 27215.
