George  Garland Cantrell 

    BURLINGTON — George  Garland Cantrell , 85, of 4046 Burch Bridge Road, passed away Sunday, October 8, 2006 at the V.A. Hospital in Durham after several years of failing health. He was the husband of Bernice Beckom Cantrell  for 64 years. George  was a native of Alamance County, retired from Cone Mills Minneola Plant after many years of service, served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the 3rd Army 90th Division in the European Theatre. He enjoyed working in his garden and made many friends when delivering his produce.
    Survivors include his wife of the home; children, Gaynell Leazer of Greensboro, Wade Cantrell  and his wife, Laurie, of Orange Park, Fla., Glenn Cantrell  and his wife, Claudia, of Danville, Va., Janet Radford and her husband, Gary, of Burlington; grandchildren, Kristin Canipe and her husband, James, D. Christopher Radford, Brandon Radford; sisters, Inez C. King, Cozette C. Kernodle, Alma Cantrell , all of Burlington; a brother, Charlie Cantrell  of Burlington.
    He was preceded in death by his parents, Van and Della Ingle Cantrell ; a sister, Louise C. Huffines; and a brother, Walter Cantrell .
    The graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Alamance Memorial Park by the Rev. Dave Gilbert.
    The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 this evening at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory Inc., and at other times at the home.
