Obituary Online notes for Doris Levone JEROME
Doris Strandberg Elavsky
Doris passed away April 15, 2010 at 1 a.m. after a battle with cancer.

There will be a memorial service at Little Stone Church, in Chelan, Wash. on Wednesday, April 21 at 1 p.m.

Doris Levone Jerome was born in Kuna, Idaho on Nov. 30, 1936 to Ermil and Evelyn Jerome. In her early years, Doris attended elementary and high school in Kuna, Idaho, and participated in 4-H, Junior Grange and Future Homemakers of America. By the time she began college, she had distinguished herself by being named Queen of the Meridian Dairy in 1951 and served as the State President of the FHA in 1954. She continued with leadership roles at the University of Idaho as Chapter President of the Tri-Delta Sorority. She also represented the college in an exchange program to Switzerland. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in teaching in 1957. Doris began her teaching career in 1958 and married Lyle Strandberg in 1959. They had three sons Lyle Jr. (Skip), Eric and Lars. During this time she taught grade school in Washington and Idaho, retiring in 1991 after a 33 year career. She remarried in September of 1995 to Michal Elavsky. Doris and Mike shared many common interests including: helping in the cherry orchard during harvest, hunting and camping in the mountains, sport fishing and clam digging. Her curiosity and optimism made her a great companion, and she and Mike enjoyed traveling around the world. She enjoyed attending the large family reunions in Kuna, Idaho. Community spirit was important to Doris; she made friends and found ways to help. She organized an annual neighborhood potluck, which fostered many new friendships. She was active in church, and her steadfast faith in God was apparent when helping with vacation bible school and Awana. She led an effort to start a clothes closet for anyone in need. Her hallmarks were generosity, friendliness and an ever present smile. She reached out, gave of herself and enjoyed a large circle of friends.

She was preceded in death by her son Lyle (Skip) Strandberg, Jr.

She is survived by her husband, Mike Elavsky, her brother, Donnell Jerome, her sons Eric and Lars Strandberg and her grandchildren, Alexa, Samuel, Ethan and Olivia. Doris was a longtime, active member of P.E.O.
