November 5, 1940 — November 20, 2025
Burlington

Martha Sue Wrenn Rumley, born on November 5, 1940, in Alamance County, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on November 20, 2025.

A devoted member of her community, Martha's life revolved around her family and her passion for the medical field, which she approached with boundless enthusiasm and commitment.

Martha met the love of her life, Everett Lea Rumley Jr., at the tender age of 14 in church and married him when she was 18. Their 50 plus years of marriage were marked by deep love and partnership, a bond that remained strong until his passing. Together, they raised their children: Laura Butler, Robin Meier (Bryan), Jan Walker and Everett "Skip" Rumley III. Her family was her greatest joy, and she cherished every moment spent with them.

Martha was not only a mother but also a grandmother, including L. Ashley Barnhart (Steve), J. Adam Coble (Cheryl), P. Jason Coble (Ashley), Kyle Meier (Marie), Austin Meier (Cinzia), Susan Meier, Cassie Carlton (Taylor), Clair Barbour (Brandon), and Gavin Walker. The arrival of sixteen great-grandchildren further expanded her family, bringing her an abundance of joy and laughter, which she treasured deeply.

In her professional life, Martha dedicated herself to the medical field, a career she found immensely fulfilling. She was known for her straightforward and generous nature, always offering help and support to those around her. Her personality could be described as “to the point,” displaying the honesty and clarity she embodied in her life. Her strong faith and beautiful relationship with God were central to her existence, grounding her in love and harmony.
Martha served as an Air Force wife, taking pride in raising her children while supporting her husband during his military service. Her dedication to her family and faith created a supportive and nurturing environment that fostered growth and love.

Martha will be lovingly remembered not only by her children and grandchildren but also by her faithful furry companion, Charlie, who provided her companionship and comfort.

Despite the loss of her beloved husband, daughter Jan Walker, and her parents, Howard William Wrenn and Connie Lea Weaver Wrenn, as well as sons-in-law Kevin Walker and James “Bill” Butler, Martha’s legacy continues through her loving family.

Her memory will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew her, as they reflect on a life well-lived, full of love, kindness, and unwavering faith.
