Betty Ross Riggan
BURLINGTON — Mrs. Betty Ross Riggan, age 75, formerly of South Sellars Mill Road, Burlington, NC, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, March 28, 2016, after one year of failing health.
She was preceded in death by her parents Paul and Lena Mae Ross, her husband Alton Riggan and a special Aunt, Grace Ross Ray. She is survived by her daughter, Lynn Rashid and husband Brian, of Wake Forest and a brother, Tim Ross and wife Yvonne, of Burlington. She was a member of the Graham Presbyterian Church.
Betty was diagnosed at the age of 18 with rheumatoid arthritis and was told by the doctors that she would most likely be unable to walk by the age of 25. But even though her body was severely compromised by the disease, she refused to give in to it and proceeded to work outside the home and watch over her younger brother Tim after the death of their father while their mother worked. Betty then married and raised a daughter and handled the paper work for her husband’s trucking career. She loved her family dearly.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 1, 2016, at the McClure Funeral Home Chapel in Graham with the Rev. Steve Braswell officiating. Burial will follow in Alamance Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Friday. Condolences may be offered at
