Wilson Oliver Gerringer, age 87, passed away on Monday, October 31, 2011 at Cone Hospital in Greensboro.
A graveside service will be held at 3:30 P.M. Thursday, November 3, 2011 at Westminster Gardens with Rev. Tom Gibson officiating.
He was born March 16, 1924 in Asheville, NC, a son of the late Rev. Lindley William and Mary Oliver Gerringer.
He was a chartered member of Irving Park Methodist Church.
Mr. Gerringer is a Veteran after serving in the U.S. Army World War Two from 1942-1945. He served in Australia, New Guinea, and the Phillipines.
He went on to attend UNC Chapel Hill, NC and graduated with a degree in Bachelor of Science and Business. He retired from Carolina Steel after 35 years of service.
Mr. Gerringer is survived by his wife Betty Sue Highfill Gerringer; daughter, Sharon G. Brown of Greer, SC; son, Joel W. Gerringer and wife Linda of Monroe, NC; two granddaughters, Harlee E. Gerringer; Tiffany B. Unruh, husband Josh of New Bern, NC; and one great-grandchild, Reagan Lynn Unruh; a close family friends, Nancy Williams of Greensboro, NC, and her son Brian Williams of Charlotte, NC. Mr. Gerringer was also preceded in death by two sisters and one brother.
The family will receive friends from 2:00-3:00 P.M. Thursday, at Forbis and Dick Funeral Home, N. Elm Street.
