Obituary Online notes for Joseph Murray HODGES III
Joseph Murry ''Cowboy'' Hodges III, 58, died Aug. 30, 2000, at his residence.
Born in Little Washington, N.C., he was a retired carpenter. Mr. Murry was past president of the Virginia Country Music Association and Tidewater's Best Bingo Caller, known by all by his ''Mercy!''
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 23 years, Marilynn Hodges; five daughters, Debbie Conners and her husband, Gene, Elaine Hartley and her husband, Steve, all of North Carolina, DeDe Shafer and her husband, David, of Chesapeake, Darlene Swindell of Norfolk and Dale Gray of North Carolina; two sons, Joe Hodges of North Carolina and Donald Fowler of Virginia Beach; a brother, Jimmy Hodges of Norfolk; 11 grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and his very special companions, Smokey and Degee.
A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Indian River Chapel. Burial will be in Rosewood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to the SPCA.
