Virginia York “Ginny” Gerringer


BURLINGTON - Mrs. Virginia York “Ginny” Gerringer, 90, of Burlington, died at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, February 1, 2017 at Alamance-Caswell Hospice Home after several weeks of declining health.
A native of Alamance County, she was the wife of Wayne L. Gerringer for 59 years until his death in 2003.

She was preceded in death by her parents, O. Ed York and Hazel Fogleman York; brothers, Wayne York (infant) and Melvin M. York and his wife, Virginia Higgins York.
Ginny is survived by her daughter, Kathy G. Kenny and her husband, Buster, of Cary; her son, Eddie W. Gerringer, Sr. and his wife, Donna Lashley Gerringer, of Burlington; grandchildren, E. Wayne Gerringer, Jr. of Fredericksburg, VA, Kip L. Gerringer and his wife, Kimberly Powell Gerringer of Burlington, Josh Kelley of Cary, Jonathan Kenny of Mebane, Elizabeth Kenny of Radford, VA and Julie Kenny Zarecor and her husband, Jason, of Brentwood, TN; greatgrandchildren, Sophia Gerringer of Burlington and Eli Zarecor and Jude Zarecor, both of Brentwood, TN.
Ginny was retired from the Alamance County Department of Social Services and was a charter member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church where she cherished her Workers Sunday School class.
Her visitation will be held on Saturday, February 4, 2017 at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. with a graveside service to follow at 3:30 p.m. at Bellemont United Methodist Church, led by Rev. Lee Pittard III, of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church.
The family would like to thank the Cone Health (ARMC) Palliative Care Unit and the Alamance-Caswell Hospice Home for the excellent and loving care received. A special thanks to Bennie Sweitzer, special care-giver and the Rev. Lee Pittard for his support.
