Eddie W. Gerringer

BURLINGTON - On Sunday, February 12, 2017 at approximately 7 p.m. Eddie W. Gerringer, Sr., age 71, of Burlington, NC, beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend, died unexpectedly at home.
He was preceded in death by his parents Wayne L. and Virginia York Gerringer.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Donna Lashley Gerringer; sons E. Wayne Gerringer, Jr; Kip L. Gerringer and wife Kim Powell Gerringer and their daughter, Sophie, all of Burlington; his sister Kathy Gerringer Kenny and husband Buster, of Cary, NC and their children, Josh Kelley of Cary, Jonathan Kenny of Mebane, NC, Elizabeth Kenny of Michigan, Julie Zarecor (Jason) of TN & their two boys, Eli and Jude; and Dusti, his beloved Maltipoo, who loved his belly rubs.

He was loved and respected by so many throughout his banking career; and for the past two years at Alamance Memorial Park. He will be remembered for his generous contributions as a volunteer with the Red Cross, Meals on Wheels; and as a member and former president of the Kiwanis Club.
He was a veteran of the US Marine Corps.

Through selfless sacrifice he always sought to put the needs of others above his own. He thoroughly enjoyed being a great father to his two sons who cherish the memories of his active involvement with them in Indian Guides, sports, camping, fishing and riding dirt bikes. As they grew they came to depend upon his wise counsel. He was affectionately known as "Poppa" to his granddaughter Sophie, whom he adored.

His visitation will be held on Thursday, February 16, 2017 at Rich & Thompson in Burlington from 6 p.m. - 8 p.m.
Private burial will occur at a later date.

The family would like to thank the outpouring of love shown during this difficult time.

In lieu of flowers, please send memorials to Burlington Animal Services, 221 Stone Quarry Rd., Haw River NC 27258, (336) 578-0343.
