James Howard Jenkins, 70, died Friday, May 18, 2012, at his residence on Dickens Avenue.
James was born in Halifax County on Oct. 30, 1941, to the late John Henry Jenkins and Nellie Mabrey Jenkins. He was a supervisor and salesman for Coca-Cola. He was a wonderful husband and great father and loved his family very much. Other than his parents, James was preceded in death by his daughter, Terry Lynn Jenkins; and his sister, Dorothy Griffin.
He is survived by his wife, Hilda D. Jenkins, of the home; son, Shelton M. Jenkins and wife, Tammy; brother, Wayne Jenkins and wife, Sylvia; two sisters, Charlotte Rodwell and husband, J.B., and Ann Allsbrook and husband, Chester “Buzzy,” all of Roanoke Rapids; and a very special friend of the family, Deanna Sigmon.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, May 21, at Hockaday Funeral & Cremation Service in Roanoke Rapids, which is handling the arrangements.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, May 22,in the chapel of the funeral home, with the Rev. Sue Owens and the Rev. D.A. Leonard officiating. Burial will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery in Roanoke Rapids.
The family has requested memorial contributions be made to Halifax Regional Medical Center, Respiratory Department, 250 Smith Church Road, Roanoke Rapids NC 27870. [26732]

Hilda Gray DeBerry Jenkins, 74, of Roanoke Rapids passed away Saturday, October7, 2017 at UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill.
Hilda was born August 26, 1943 in Halifax County to the late Henry Carless DeBerry and Mary Magdalene Gerringer DeBerry. She was also preceded in death by daughter Terri Lynn Jenkins and husband, James H. Jenkins.
She was a loving wife and mother and loved her family.
She is survived by her son, Shelton M. Jenkins; her brother-in-law, Wayne Jenkins and his wife Sylvia; her sisters-in-law, Charlotte Rodwell and her husband J.B. and Ann Allsbrook all of Roanoke Rapids; three very special cousins, Lee Barber, Ann Harris both of Elon, NC and Dawn Lambert of Locust, NC; a close friend, Verla Jenkins.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, October 11, 2017 in the chapel of Hockaday Funeral and Cremation Service with Rev. D. A. Leonard and Rev. Sue Owens officiating.
