Iris Elouise Ireland Gourley passed away peacefully of natural causes at her home in Elon, NC, on April 12, 2015, with loved ones by her side.
An elegant, intelligent and gentle woman, she was known for her grace, love of family and home. Born in Burlington, NC, on June 11, 1920, and raised in Elon, NC, she has lived in Elon for the last 30 years and was a member of the Fairview United Methodist Church in Ossipee, NC. She graduated from Altamahaw-Ossipee High School and attended Elon College.
She was the devoted and loving wife of Norman Gourley, who predeceased her in 2004. For many years she worked as an administrator in elementary education in Charlotte and Statesville, where she and Norman raised their children.
Beloved mother of Pamela Sue Perry and Robbin Gourley, Pamela predeceased her in 2005. She is survived by Robbin, son-in-law Jeffrey Stern of Hillsborough, NC; son-in-law Wayne Perry of Lafayette, CA; her sisters, Mary Sue Ireland of Greensboro, NC, and Dorothy Fishel of Harrisonburg, VA; five grandchildren; Hannah Stern, Luke Stern, Courtney Perry, Keating Perry and Andrew Perry; five nieces and six nephews.
Memorials may be made to Fairview United Methodist Church and Hospice and Palliative Care Center of Alamance-Caswell. A memorial service and commemoration of her life will be held later this summer. 3, Iris Elouise Ireland Gourley
