September 25, 1949 ~ January 31, 2022 (age 72)
Ronald Reid Thompson, 72, passed away at home on January 31, 2022. By his side was his wife of 48 years, Pat Thompson. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather.
After retiring from his 40 years at Southern Optical, he enjoyed motorcycle trips with friends, watching Duke basketball games, and doing woodwork projects in his shop. He was a member of GWRRA and rode with the Patriot Guard. Ron loved getting together with all his cousins and extended family. He enjoyed arranging the annual Family Reunion each year at the City Park.
Survivors other than his wife, Pat Thompson include his daughters, Tammy Gilliam (Tod) and Lori Thompson (Jim Holmes); grandchildren, Nick Gilliam, Chelsea Gilliam, Vince Holmes and Mia Holmes.
He is preceded in death by his parents Numa Reid Thompson and Cleo Fuquay Thompson as well as his sister, Linda McAllister.
A funeral service will be held at 4:00pm Saturday, February 5, 2022 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Marc Sanders. The family will receive friends from 2:45PM to 3:45PM prior to the service at Lowe Funeral Home & Crematory. The family will be at the residence at other times.
