Shirley Gilliam Lewis
BURLINGTON — Mrs. Shirley Gilliam Lewis, 71, of 915 Tucker St., went to be with her Lord on Friday, Dec. 26, 2008, at 12:20 p.m. from the Hospice and Palliative Care Center of Alamance-Caswell.
A native of Alamance County, she was the daughter of Ernest Gilliam and Daisy Simmons Tate, both deceased.
She was a member of Davis Street United Methodist Church.
Survivors include three daughters, Barbara Robbins and husband, Larry, of Swepsonville, Pamela O’Malley and husband, Tim, of Graham, and Michelle Nunn and husband, Larry, of Burlington; one son, Edward "Eddie" Lewis Jr. and wife, Vonda, of Burlington; five sisters, Dolly Everette, of Marietta, Ga., Jackie Sharpe, Mattie Terrell, Alice Stuckey and Marie Gibson, all of Burlington; one brother, Jay Gilliam, of Arizona; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother, James Henry Tate Jr.
The funeral will be conducted at the Rich & Thompson Chapel in Burlington on Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2008, at 11 a.m. by the Rev. Howard Thompson, the Rev. E. Reid Dickens and Dr. Alan Sasser. Burial will follow at Gilliams Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the Rich & Thompson Funeral and Cremation Service in Burlington on Monday from 6 until 8 p.m. Other times they will be at the residence of the son, Eddie Lewis, 1700 Littlejohn Court, Burlington.
