John William Sparks


Mr. John William Sparks, 93, of Greensboro passed peacefully shortly before noon at Beacon Place on Thursday, November 16, 2017 due to complications from a pulmonary embolism suffered on October 18, 2017. He was surrounded by his family.
A native of Danville, VA, he was the husband of the late Helene Luebbers Sparks and the son of John Thomas Sparks and Sallie Curl Hagood Sparks, both deceased.

Survivors include a daughter, Cecilia Sparks Ford (Nelson) of McLean, VA; three grandchildren, Aven Ford (Caelan), Alexander Ford (Jessica Wells) and Mary Ford Graeber (Adam); four great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mr. Sparks was a veteran of the U. S. Army, 717th Tank Battalion serving during World War II. He was a well-regarded certified public accountant. He was an old movie buff and a frequent guest speaker on a radio talk show in Greensboro where he discussed the old movie classics. Mr. Sparks was active in the Greensboro Jaycees, Sertoma and Kiwanis Clubs.
The funeral service will be conducted at the Rich & Thompson Chapel in Burlington on Sunday, November 19, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. by Father Paul Lininger, OFM. Conv. with the family receiving friends from 12:45 until 1:45 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Pine Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the John and Helene Sparks Scholarship for Business, Elon University, 2600 Campus Box, Elon, NC 27244.
