Mrs. Mary  Elizabeth Shoffner Staley 


    WHITSETT — Mrs. Mary  Elizabeth Shoffner Staley , 93, formerly of Whitsett, died Wednesday, May 9, 2007, at Clare Bridge Nursing Center.
    A native of Guilford County, she was the daughter of the late Thomas J. Shoffner  and the late Nora Greeson Shoffner , and was married to the late John Joseph Staley , who died in 1994. She was a homemaker and a long time member of Mt. Hope United Church of Christ, where she was active in the Ladies Guild. She was a member of the Mt. Hope Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and the Mt. Hope Garden Club.
    Mrs. Staley  is survived by two daughters, Betty Neese and her husband, Jimmy, and Marie Linnens and her husband, George, all of Whitsett; two sons John Staley  and his wife, Beverly, of Whitsett and J.D. Staley  and his wife, Margie, of Randleman; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; one great-greatgrandchild; three sisters, Maggie Lee Coble of Julian, Mazie Coulman of Florida, and Osa Rea McAdoo of Greensboro; and three brothers, Richard Shoffner , Thomas Shoffner  and Leonard Shoffner , all of Burlington.
    She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; and two sisters, Georgie May and Swannie Belle Johnson.
    The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 12, 2007, at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Walter Patten. Interment will follow at Mt. Hope United Church of Christ cemetery.
    The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 this evening.
    Memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Alamance-Caswell, 914 Chapel Hill Road, Burlington, N.C. 27215.
