Mr. Edwin  Turner Bowland  Sr.

    BURLINGTON — Mr. Edwin  Turner Bowland  Sr., 88, of 5951 North N.C. 62, died at 9:45 a.m. Saturday, May 5, 2007 at the Veterans Administration Hospital, Durham, after one month of failing health.
    A native of Alamance County, he was a lifetime member of the Union Ridge Church where he was named Father of The Year in 1994. He was employed with Acme Feed Company for over 20 years and was a lifelong farmer in the Pleasant Grove community. He was a former Pleasant Grove Civitan Club member, was very active in establishing the Pleasant Grove Volunteer Fire Department from which he was given many honors such as the 2002 Honor Award of Dedication and Leadership for 27 years of service and The Citizen of the Year Award in 2005. He was a World War II veteran of the Army Air Corp, member of the Order Of The Long Leaf Pine and a member of the DAV. He was known to be the best rook card player in the county.
of 67 years, Mrs. Nettie Hodges Bowland  of the home; a son, Randy Bowland  of the home; a grandson, Blair Bowland  of Burlington; a daughter-in-law, Janice Bowland  and husband Jimmy of Burlington; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Gertrude Bowland  of Burlington; and a god-grandchild, Clay Bowland  Smith.
    He was preceded in death by his parents, Irven Archie Bowland  and Zada Turner Bowland ; sons, Edwin  Turner "Eddie" Bowland  Jr., Andy Hodges Bowland  and Ricky Glenn Bowland ; sisters, Evelyn Bowland  Mansfield and Wilma Elizabeth Bowland ; and brothers, James Irven Bowland  and John Preston Bowland .
    The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 8, 2007, at the Union Ridge Church with the Rev. James L. Rosser, pastor of the church, officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
    The family will receive friends at the McClure Funeral Home in Graham this evening from 6 to 8 p.m. and other times at the residence. The body will be taken to the church to lie in state for 30 minutes prior to the service and the members of the Pleasant Grove Volunteer Fire Department are ask to serve as honorary pallbearers and sit together.
