Nettie Hodges Bowland
BURLINGTON — Nettie Hodges Bowland, 86, of 5951 N.C. 62 North, died December 4, 2008, at Alamance Regional Medical Center.
Mrs. Bowland was born in Caswell County, N.C. She was a homemaker and a member of Long’s Chapel Christian Church. She was a member of the Democratic Women of Alamance County. Mrs. Bowland and her husband, Edwin Turner Bowland Sr., were awarded the Order of the Long Leaf Pine by former Governor Robert Scott. In 1991 Nettie was named Citizen of the Year by the Pleasant Grove Fire Department.
Survivors include a son, Randy Malloy Bowland of Burlington; a grandson, Blair Bowland of Burlington; a godchild, Clay Bowland Smith of Mebane; a daughter-in-law, Janice Bowland and husband, Jimmy, of Burlington; sisters, Irene Walker and LaVerne Albright, both of Burlington, and Scottie Pettigrew of Haw River; a brother, George Hodges of Danville, Va.; a sister-in-law, Gertrude Bowland of Burlington; and numerous nieces, nephews and greatnieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Edwin Turner Bowland Sr.; sons, Edwin Turner "Eddie" Bowland Jr., Andy Hodges Bowland and Rickey Glenn Bowland; parents, Johnny Emanuel Hodges and Bertha Foster Hodges; sisters, Annie Lou Hanks, Hattie Thompson, Sarah Everette and Nancy Everette; and brothers, John Malloy Hodges (Nettie’s twin brother), Kenneth Hodges and Dewey Hodges.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 7, 2008, at Long’s Chapel Christian Church by the Rev. James Baughn, pastor. Burial will be in Union Ridge Christian Church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at McClure Funeral Home in Graham from 4 until 6 p.m. Saturday, and at other times they will be at the residence.
