PROSPECT HILL — Susan “Sue” Ethel Edwards Blalock, 94, died Monday, April 20, 2015, at her home after several years of declining health.
She was born May 29, 1920 in Vesta, Va., to Thomas Franklin Edwards and Mary Anne Rakes Edwards, both deceased. She was the wife of the late George Franklin Blalock for 47 years.
She retired in 1976 after almost 29 years from Sears Roebuck in Greensboro. She was a member of Moon’s Creek Primitive Baptist Church.
She is survived by stepdaughter, Sharron B. Mansfield; three grandchildren, Temesia L. Jackson, John R. Mansfield Jr. and LuAnne
C. Mansfield; two great- grandsons; four brothers, Howard Taft Edwards, Clarence Herbert Edwards, Robert Curtis Edwards and Kenneth Wayne Edwards.
She was predeceased by four sisters, Sarah Agnes Wilson, Bertie Luncinda Shough, Ida Ruth Hooker and Audrey May Edwards; and two brothers, Joseph Albert Edwards and William Lee Edwards.
Funeral services are Wednesday, April 22, 2015, at 2 p.m. in the Harrelson Funeral Service Chapel in Yanceyville with Elder James Gray officiating. Burial will be at the Blalock Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home and at other times at Sue’s home, 2532 John Oakley Road, Prospect Hill, NC 27314.
The family wishes to thank Hospice of Alamance-Caswell and caregivers Cynthia Barrett, Betty Mihopoulis and Sue Reaves for their love and care during the last few months.
